The Art of Felting |
Join us as we explore natural fibres in the context of the felting process. Felting is an ancient and practical art form, which has traditionally provided many cultures with the warm clothes and shelter-building materials necessary for survival. It involves understanding the properties of natural fibre and working with the nature of the material to matte and build individual strands into a sturdy, strong material that has an endless possibility of uses.
Using sheep’s wool roving, participants will learn the principals of dry, wet, and wash felting and experiment with the various techniques. On the second day we will focus on more decorative elements of needle felting and found object embellishment. Participants will go home with several beautiful hand-made items. Materials and tools will be provided for your use during the course. If you have your own felting needles/other tools, feel free to bring them. Starter/take home tool kits are also available for purchase at the course. We provide:
