Way of the Steward |

Bringing together old and new methods for sustainable land stewardship that will bridge cultural as well as technological gaps. This project will help everyone see first hand, the exponential benifits of practical, hands on, land based stewardship that can put into action by those willing to listen to Mother Nature. This course will teach participants what to look for in a forest/wetland/field habitat in terms of its ecological needs. For instance, what stage of succession is taking place in a particular area and why? |
What can we do to best facilitate mother nature’s processes of re-establishing or “naturalizing” a human-impacted area? Are there invasive species outcompeting important native plants for nutrients or sunlight and what to do if there are? How can we create wildlife corridors that provide – shelter, food and water that would encourage particular birds and wildlife (back) into an area? |
|
Once we figure out as a group what our ecosytems needs are, we will implement hands-on, practical caretaking techniques while using a variety of proactive stewardship approaches to create positive ecosystem change as a whole. You will learn to develop an eye for a habitat’s needs, learn the skills needed to manage the land in the best way possible and implement techniques in order to maximize and balance the long-term potential, integrity and overall health of the habitat. Come join us and make tracks that last with integrity. |
